Skills and Strengths
Mae | Mona | Gemma
Gemma may be Queen of Alcoro, but she's first and foremost a scientist, following her mother's interest in entomology. Insects, arachnids, little crawling things... while others like Queen Mona might shy away from such creatures, Gemma sees their value, resourcefulness, and delicate beauty, and she uses this knowledge to solve some of her problems.
Readers of the Creatures of Light trilogy know there's no formal magic in the series. The fantasy role is instead filled by the natural world--strange phenomena, vivid landscapes, and weird critters. Good thing Gemma keeps a sketchbook to document the world around her. Here are some of the creatures she encounters throughout the trilogy, and some of the notes she's made along the way.
